Pictures of my youth came and went; the nausea remained, poaching my stomach with small stabs of remorsefulness. Why was I here? Where was I going? Why had I promised my kids Tobago and instead delivered them shadows of Polish misery? The questions remained; the ability to answer them dissipating with the smell of diesel crawling up my nose.

…of carrying a kid weighing 20kg through small-town Germany. At least it’s not Sudan. And never mind the 20kg of groceries and the 20kg bag containing my laptop and my books that I’ve been schlepping around for weeks. Supposedly, it’s good exercise. Still, I wonder why my blood pressure is through the fucking roof.
A leap of faith is still a leap. Keep the faith.
