“I was a writer; I was raising two kids; I was paying the bills; I was shopping, doing the laundry, calling the vet, and dealing with the PTA,” I said, smoldering. “And what was he doing? Going to work each morning and complaining about his boss at night. Then he’d have a beer and fall asleep on the couch while I put the kids to bed. Doesn’t that sound like it would piss you off, too?”
Usually, my psychologist would let me air everything out. But this time he interrupted me before I could continue.
“You mentioned that you were a writer,” he said, taking off his glasses. “A journalist?”
I had to laugh. I knew he wouldn’t believe what I was about to tell him.
“Yes, a freelance journalist,” I said, already smiling. “I used to write a self-help column for the local paper telling everyone how great my life was.”
